Managing and architecting an extremely large database landscape (1,500+ SQL instances, 15,000+ databases) for major regional banks.

  • Many of the powershelldba tools were built directly out of this role.
  • Designed and implemented an automated install and patch-management strategy for standalone and AlwaysOn clusters.
  • Played a key role in migrating the systems into the Finance Cloud, building the automation scripts for cloud installs.
  • Built a custom SQL monitoring solution with a web UI for proactive performance monitoring.
  • Ran performance analyses and trained developers on query and database-design optimization.
  • Retroactively rolled out Splunk monitoring across the existing SQL Server fleet.
  • Also carried the day-to-day operational ticket queue.
  • Impact: setup time dropped from hours to minutes; AlwaysOn setups run error-free, also in minutes instead of hours.
  • Impact: performance problems and bad SQL code are now found in minutes instead of hours.
  • Impact: recurring Kerberos authentication problems are gone across the fleet.
  • Impact: day-to-day SQL admin work is far easier, and migrations follow a fixed process so nothing gets forgotten.
  • Impact: every command execution, database migration, and permission change is logged, timestamped, and auditable, so audit questions can be answered for any change.

  • Owned the technical design of the web presence (backend, web services) and the database design for the point-of-sale system.
  • Migrated an Oracle database to Microsoft SQL Server; implemented Change Data Capture (CDC) for data exchange.
  • Connected Microsoft Dynamics to the existing system landscape.
  • Redesigned the "Kassen-System" (point-of-sale) database.
